Ego depletion

A concept from the self-regulation/control literature which proposes that will power has similar properties to a muscle and, likewise, is prone to fatigue with repeated use – as exerting will power is psychologically taxing, this fatigue lessens the efficiency of subsequent self-regulatory processes and, thus, may result in sub-optimal performance. (As with muscles, there is evidence that that ingestion of glucose can retard or even reverse this negative effect)
