System 2 (explicit/declarative)

One of the two kinds of information processing described in dual-processing theory. System 2 is reflective, slow, controlled, effortful and can be conscious. It is thought that System 2 operates only when there is a definite choice to be made and System 1 cannot arrive at a solution. System 2 is usually thought to have the capacity to be more rational than System 1.
